I've been busy for about a week researching and finding a lot of info on the internet. And i think i am very close to finding a permanent way to balance the weapons by their performance.

I will post findings as soon as i have something interesting to show.

but for now this and the following few comments are reserved.

My take on Firearms balancing. Empty Firearm Balancing

Calculating Base Damage and DPS

Our Base weapon will have a minimum damage of 1 (The worst weapon in the game, an Old Damaged Lawson .22 Pistol, which has a damage penalty of 9%)

BASE DMG -23% = MIN DMG
MIN DMG - 9% = 1 Damage Unit

The Lawson .22 Pistol is based on the 4.75 inch barrel variant of the Ruger MK III standard [PIC] This weapon fires the .22 Long Rifle Rimfire cartridge at an estimation of 1047 Feet per second.
(Added 31 FPS because our weapon is .75 inch longer than the tested one. +-42 per inch for pistols +-62 fps per inch for rifles)

Assuming that these cartridges are comparable to the 40 gr Solid variant on Wikipedia. We know that these are 40 gr, and have a muzzle velocity of 1047 Feet per second. Entering these values into this Calculator, will give us an aproximate 131.7 Joules of energy. We now know that a level 1 Lawson pistol has a BASE DMG equivalent to 131.7 joules of kinetic energy.

According to the weapon's page on The TLS Wiki. The weapon currently has a MIN DMG of 5 and a MAX DMG of 8 (Which makes 6.5 average and ~+-23% on both sides)

Conclusion:

BASE DMG = 131.7 J
BASE DMG - 23% -9% = 92.2 J
1 DMG PT = 92.2 J

To balance it out a bit, and get the newly balanced lawson .22 pistol DPS around it's old one (6.1 DPS) and to make space for even weaker guns, for example a Beretta 21 Bobcat) i shall put it up to 25 J = 1 DMG PT

For the calculation of the DPS this formula is used:

MIN DMG + MAX DMG / 2 / ATK SPD * ACCURACY

Interesting. What do you mean by firearms balancing though? Making them too weak or too strong?

Basically what i am aiming for is what con is aiming for. Try and get the firearms balanced over the levels while remaining realistic. Strong weapons need to have counter weapons in other sections. Snipers and assault rifles currently are the primary choice of all the players. Im trying to get more potential out of the other sections as well. If not for high level use, then atleast for the lower levels.

Oh hey you updated this. I'll sticky it up to make it easier to read. Interesting add so far, and wayyyy more detailed than I would have ever looked into.

The new Thudder is stupidly underpowered. A level 20 blue shotgun that could deal no more DPS than a silenced lvl 17 suppressed M4A1 or a level 13 blue PDW-M must be cool. Btw, has anyone even gotten that wep?
